Who I am
Prodip Kumar Dam is a versatile fisheries and aquaculture expert in Bangladesh. He has founded FishSchool, a rising e-learning and center of excellence that also facilitates skill development on fish, shrimp, prawn, and crab farming through need-based online and offline training programs. He has also been working hard to develop a new set of principles for aquaculture, “GRESAP,” that would help the aqua farmers to enhance their conventional farming system in a greener and more sustainable manner! EcoFisheries is another eco-friendly initiative to discourage the dumping of plastics and other non-biodegradable materials into the natural water bodies in Bangladesh. In addition to that, EcoFisheries also aims to reduce the usage of plastics and other non-biodegradable materials in daily life, which might lessen the impact of plastic pollution on water.
Mission
Mr. Dam has been incubating some inclusive and innovative initiatives in the country for the first time to foster green transformation in the fisheries and aquaculture sector! The formation of effective and feasible protocols, the introduction of green technology and automation in traditional aquaculture farms, the responsible utilization of fisheries and aquatic resources, and climate-resilient approaches could be a game-changer in achieving the goals.
Academic Background
He has completed his graduation in Fisheries and post-graduation in Fish Genetics and Biotechnology from the Fisheries and Marine Resource Discipline at Khulna University, Bangladesh. During his graduation and post-graduation studies, Mr. Dam has attended many notable national and international seminars and symposiums. He was also involved in some socio-cultural activities at Khulna University.
Career History
- Mr. Prodip Kumar Dam started his professional career as a “Field Biologist” at Center for Natural Resource Studies (CNRS) in 2009. In this job, he acquired vast knowledge and experience in the relevant work protocols and at the same time attained a rare opportunity to work with Chevron, a world-renowned energy company funded in the same project to explore oil and gas on Block 7 in the Bay of Bengal. He used to observe marine mammals, e.g., whales and dolphins, while boarded on the Black Jack (a 2D seismic survey vessel) and reported accordingly.
- In the middle of 2010, Mr. Dam joined ACI Godrej Agrovet Pvt. Ltd. as a “Territory Executive” in aquaculture division, was especially responsible for providing technical support to the fish farmers and marketing of fish feeds.
- Mr. Dam joined Uttara Foods and Feeds (BD) Limited (Venky’s) in June 2013 as a Assistant Manager in aqua division.
- In 2016, Mr. Prodip joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) as a Upazila Fisheries Officer and currently working as a Senior Upazila Fisheres Officer in the Department of Fisheries, Bangladesh.
